Thank you, mom. As I’m getting closer to graduating and moving out, I’m realizing how much I need my momma. Even though there have definitely been days where I didn’t understand the lessons she was teaching me, I’m so thankful for every trick and tool she has taught me to use. My mom has been there for me through every bad day and great day and I am so beyond thankful for that.
Now to show my appreciation this mother’s day, I tried my hardest to compile the perfect gift.
The perfect gift always has:
Something from the heart
Something they have been wanting
Something to remind them of your love
From the Heart
This year, I sat down and wrote a letter to my mom about how much I appreciate her. I also strongly encouraged my two little brothers to do the same. Both said no (insert eyeroll here). Kellyn, who is six, decided to do some coloring instead which I thought was fair actually. My “too-cool-for-skool” teenage brother did not completely let down his emotional barrier, but he did crack a little window. Quentyn picked out his own card and signed it himself, which was a big step. My momma absolutely loved how each part that accurately showed each of her children.
Flowers are a go to mother’s day gift for everyone, but my mother is a special one. Ever since I was little, my mom has always decorated our house in fake plants, both for comfort and for low maintenance. Finding flowers that my mom is not allergic to, as well as ones easy enough to take care of in her busy mom schedule, is just a little too hard. Our current centerpiece in the kitchen was beautiful, but very fit for the fall season. My mom had mentioned wanting a new one that was more springy, SO THAT’S WHAT I DID. I snatched the perfect spring centerpiece from target, that was equal parts beautiful and minimal, which is 100% my momma.
Reminder of Your Love
Instead of searching for the card of my dreams, I purchased a custom (fancy fancy) postcard (less fancy) for the card which tied it all together. I used this really amazing app called Ink Cards to create this mother’s day postcard. Now this is a card my mom will save forever!
As excited as I was to gift my mom what I felt was the perfect gift, seeing her so happy when she walked in an saw all this on the kitchen table was a huge reminder of how much I’ll miss her. She really is my best friend, my shoulder to cry on, and someone I can always laugh with. She gave me all my best qualities; passionate, hard working, dreamer. I am so excited to see where life take us both with our too big dreams and too big hearts, and I know it will be amazing as long as I have her in my life.
I love you, momma.
